Shokugeki no Soma (Food Wars) Review

Hi! So, in the middle of the hectic weeks of final thesis draft's deadline, I'm still sparing time for reading manga. Yup, that is Shokugeki no Soma or Food Wars. This manga also had been adopted into anime with the same title. The anime has 2 seasons aired, the first has 24 episodes and the second one has 13 episodes. Well, here I am giving a simple review for the sake of my inner fangirl thing.

As its title, this manga tells about a boy named Yukihira Soma who owned a family diner with his father, Yukihira Joichiro (or Saiba Joichiro when he's a kid). The restaurant was well-known for its delicious food, despite located in a small district. Soma always looked up to his father, and had tempted endless cooking battles with Joichiro was always on the winner side. Joichiro was a top chef among the world class restaurants, but Soma didn't know about this thing until the day he met his father later. Before going around the world again, his father sent him to enter Tootsuki Tea Ceremony and Cooking Academy, a world class culinary school. This school had "fierce" curriculum, with its student's expulsion at stake for a little mistake done. As a transfer student, he made a whole school his enemy on his first day there, by saying he's gonna be a first-ranked student in the academy. Knowing nothing about the school he was in, Soma continued cooking on and on, facing some upperclass students in the tournament, and slowly being acknowledged by everyone but Nakiri Erina, a girl known as The God-Tongue for her divine palate. Erina, being a tsundere that she was, refused to say Soma's dish was good. These two kept quarreling whenever they met. Erina's acknowledgement for his dish was added to Soma's purpose in cooking, other than defeat his father.

What I like about this anime, after a bunch of handsome guys (of course!), is their strong and interesting characters. The main character, Soma, is the one I'll pay my respect to. This guy doesn't know the term "giving up", he keeps aiming for the top, to beat his father someday in a cooking battle. He tried harder than everyone else, did countless trial and error, and made cooking a fun activity. He loved cooking so much that we all could see it bare. The plot is also another thing I'll mark down. It's getting better and better with different arcs while still on the line of Soma's way to become the best.

Again with a terrible review, but this is what keeps me sane from the final thesis deadline pressure HAHAHA hm another excuse but hey it's true! We all have that one thing that keeps us sane at the most crucial point, right?

After Taste : shame on me for being so easily discouraged and given up :X well despite being hungry, it sure has an important value to chase your dream and not easily give up. Hm, also beware to fall in love with those handsome and skillful boys!

Best Part : Soma-Erina's cute interaction! I ship this two sooo hard to the point I'll hate them so much if they're not an item at the end of the story (lol sorry but true)

Watch Out : ecchi part! Lol yeas this is an ecchi manga. To be very honest, I personally think those ecchi parts on first season anime are too much ;;; I mean, c'monnn I know that the foods are delicious without including those parts. Well, those might be needed to picture the foodgasms, but still a bit disturbing lol. Fortunately, the second season didn't have as many ecchi scenes as the first one and hey it's doing just fine!
